I'm a multi-engine instrument instructor (MEI/CFII), Airline Transport Pilot (ATP-MEL), and Mooney co-owner who wants to get more experience in conventional twins. I'm happy to pay half of the fuel expenses and possibly provide other support (e.g. insurance) as long as I get opportunities to learn.
My experience:
- 1800 hours including extensive cross-country flying (US Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf coasts multiple times).
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP-MEL).
- CFI, instrument instructor (CFII) and multi-engine instructor (MEI).
- Aircraft owner (current owner of a Lazair 2EL and 1/3 of a Mooney 201; former sole owner of AA5 and C150).
My goals:
- Log multi-engine hours and gain meaningful experience. (Riding along and watching is useful at this stage.)
- Develop good habits, knowledge of systems, and proficiency though regular & disciplined dual flying.
- Develop familiarity and insurability for twins I might want to own or co-own in future.
I offer:
- Willingness to share expenses.
- Phased approach:
- Riding right seat and simply watching is useful. I pay half gas.
- Adding a little stick time as you get comfortable would allow me to increase contribution (lunch?).
- With high quality and quantity of monthly experience, I'd pay increment in insurance costs.
- To keep insurance costs low, I have no burning need to fly multi-engine solo at this stage (have Mooney for travel).
- Adaptability to safety, maintenance, and operating parameters.
- Availability for backup on Angel Flights
(Compassion /
Grace /
Veterans Airlift)
and other XCs.
- Current charts and electronic approach plates in cockpit (have Kindle with ReaderPlates).
- Safety of having a second instrument-proficient pilot who studies your aircraft systems and procedures.
- Limited free instruction (the learning goes both ways, often more to my benefit).
- References (flight instruction & co-owners) available.
Note that I am offering partnership shares in my Lazair 2EL
to multi-engine rated pilots who share my focus on safely developing multi-engine skills.
